Anne Arundel County Urges Citizens to Shovel Sidewalks and School Bus Stops in their Communities

Publish Date: 01/28/2016

Annapolis, MD (January 28, 2016) –County Executive Steve Schuh this afternoon is urging citizens to help shovel out sidewalks and school bus stops in their communities.

"Now that all county roads are clear, we are asking our citizens to help ensure our students can travel to school safely," said Schuh. "We are encouraging every homeowner and business owner to help make certain that county sidewalks are clear."

“The task of getting more than 125 school system buildings ready to reopen after a storm like this is a massive one,” schools Superintendent George Arlotto said. “In addition to our school sites, however, we need to ensure that we have safe places for students to walk and vehicles to navigate as they travel to and from schools. That is a task that will take everyone in this county working together to accomplish.”

Snow removal on sidewalks is the responsibility of the property owner. In many instances, these sidewalks are used by children as school walking routes, and not clearing them can force the students to walk in busy roadways.
